Based in Dublin, Ireland, the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC) is a non-profit organisation with members from over 400 organisations across the entire built environment value chain and a member of the World Green Building Council. The mission of the IGBC is to accelerate systemic change in the built environment in Ireland through collaboration, education, advocacy, innovation and measurement.
This whitepaper explores the IGBC’s Construction Materials Exchange (CMEx) platform, developed in partnership with Excess Materials Exchange. The pilot in Ireland revealed significant interest in circular material usage yet highlighted key challenges, including legal ambiguity and information dissemination. Valuable lessons from the pilot underscore the need for strategic engagement and quality control to foster a successful marketplace. With careful curation and increased exchanges, Ireland can advance material reuse at scale.
