Standardising pre-demolition audits to improve data quality and enable material reuse

The London Local Market Programme will be showcasing how circularity works when driven by a cohesive approach to data supported by industry engagement and strong governance from the city.

ReLondon, who will be market programme lead, have identified that there is momentum around reuse of products and materials in London however:

  • Pre-demolition audits (PDAs), a key tool to facilitate and mainstream reuse, are increasingly requested but are not standardized in their form or execution.
  • This limits theireffectiveness as a tool in policy, as well the secondary uses of the collected data to facilitate a circular economy (strategic planning for circular economy infrastructure, material exchange supported by data-driven systems)

The LMP project aims to:

  • Align the data asks and creation process of PDAs, mainstreaming existing international standardization initiatives within London
  • Develop a demonstrator to establish the data infrastructure needed to support the aggregation and secondary uses of PDAs facilitating reuse
